Chapter 2: Day 1 – Hyderabad ➝ Kathmandu

Finally, the day dawned — the morning we had been eagerly waiting for. After a sleepless night with thoughts crowding our minds, we woke up filled with excitement on one end, anxiety on the other, and an unknown fear somewhere in between. The idea of such a tough journey was overwhelming. In the end, we decided to just go with the flow and not overthink.

Our flight from Hyderabad to Delhi was at 6 AM. We were glad we upgraded to premium economy — the extra legroom was a blessing. By then, I was super hungry (I couldn’t eat much the previous night), so I enjoyed a hot plate of upma and vada before catching an hour-long nap.

We landed in Delhi 30 minutes ahead of schedule and rested in the lounge before boarding our next flight to Kathmandu at 11 AM. For a change, Air India was on time! It took us just an hour and a half to reach Kathmandu.

To our delight, the on-arrival visa counter was empty, so immigration was quick and easy. And, for the first time ever, all our bags arrived almost immediately. By 1 PM, we were outside the airport, where a representative from Earthbound Travels was waiting to welcome us.

Ram the driver and Arjun who is cousin of Badri welcomed us with open hearts and giving us for Sukada Yatra.

In about 30 minutes, we reached Soltee Resort — a beautiful and comfortable place that will be our home for the next three days. For today, we decided to rest and recharge.

Mixed Emotions

As I sit here in Kathmandu again, I feel such a mix of emotions — happiness and excitement about the yatra, but also sadness and tears.

Two years ago, on October 26th, 2023, we were here for a vacation with friends. My dearest friend Anuradha and her family were supposed to join us on the 28th. But on the night of the 26th, just as we were about to sleep, we received the most shocking call — her son-in-law told us that Anuradha had suddenly passed away. She was only 58.

Anuradha was more than a friend to me. When we moved to Hyderabad in 2021, I was completely new — didn’t even know where to buy milk or groceries. She stepped into my life like an angel, guiding me, supporting me, and quickly becoming my soulmate. In just two years of friendship, we became inseparable.

She was a wonderful human being — always balanced, kind, never angry, always ready to help others. She supported small businesses and weavers, lifted everyone around her, and brought joy wherever she went. With me, she had two sides — the sober, dignified one the world saw, and the funny, naughty, jovial one she shared only with close friends. We had countless shopping sprees, laughter-filled evenings, and heart-to-heart talks.

Walking back into Kathmandu today brought back all those memories. I had tears in my eyes, remembering how we had once planned to make memories together here.

A Tribute to Anuradha

This time, I feel I am carrying her with me — giving her a tribute. She always wanted to visit Muktinath Temple in Nepal, but never got the chance. So, I’ve planned that visit now. I will go to Muktinath, pray for her, and take her soul with me to the place she longed to see.

Wherever you are, Anuradha, you will always remain in my thoughts and prayers. 🙏

For now, I need both physical and mental rest. Tomorrow will be a new beginning, when four of our close friends will join us. Together, we will continue this journey of faith and friendship.

🌸 In Memory of Anuradha 🌸

My dearest friend, my guide, my soul sister.

Always calm, kind, and full of grace — yet funny and playful in our private world.

She dreamed of visiting Muktinath, a dream left unfulfilled.

On this yatra, I carry her in my heart, to the temple she longed to see.

💜 Anuradha, wherever you are — this journey is also for you. 🙏

Day 1 → Hand in Hand to the Himalayas — the journey begins with hope in our hearts.
